Academic Olympic Team 2025

The Owyhee High School Academic Olympic Team hosted the November 3rd meet at the school in the Multipurpose Room. The teams were very competitive and OHS eventually placed second in the first meet. The students need a wide variety of knowledge because they’re asked questions like “Who authored War and Peace?” (Leo Tolstoy), and “What was the tribunal called that tried Nazi leaders after World War II?” (Nuremberg Trials). During the meets, advisors must sit with a different school and not their own team.

They traveled to Wells and Jackpot and went to the state meet in Eureka last week. They gained good experience and did an excellent job representing the school.

The AOT is coached by Andrea Thomas and team members are: seniors, Windsong Atkins, Jamie Lee Hernandez and Lucero Bernal-Nino; junior Esmeralda Yupe; and sophomores Kaylee Huisman and Pasituva Melendez.

Kyndra Thomas was the moderator and Shana Thomas-Jim was the timer/scorekeeper.
