Senior Recognition - Braves Football
Owyhee High School honored five senior football players during the last home football game of the season. The five were Treyvin Hanks, Rylan Jim, Owen Jim, Ashton Prior and Kiowa Smartt.
Treyvin Hanks was escorted by his mother Michelle Martinez and brother and sister, Silas and Aleeyah Barr. He has played football for four years, is a team captain and also participates in basketball and track. Treyvin is proud of being a starter since he was a freshman and for improving his grades over the years. His favorite memory is going to the Raiders game with the team and going to the pre-game sideline. He said his biggest fan is “My little brother Silas, he's always been by my side and at one point he was my only friend.” Treyvin is planning on going to lineman school or Great Basin College for welding. He said "I would like to thank my grandparents, Tim and Zannetta, for supporting me through everything as well as my family, the support throughout the years has always given me motivation to not give up and as well as giving my 100% in everything I do.”
Escorted by grandmother, Areta Carriello, father Cody Jim and family, and Heidi Jimboy and family, Rylan Jim is a two-year football player. He also participates in rodeo and said his best accomplishment is “making it to my senior year of high school.” Rylan’s favorite memory is going to Las Vegas and said his grandmother Areta is his biggest fan. After graduation, he plans “to make money.” Rylan said, “I would like to thank my coaches, Justin and Bud. I would also like to thank my family and all of my fans!”
Ashton Prior was escorted by mom Robyn Smartt and Chris Cleveland, brother and sister Hayden Prior and Marina Smartt and family. He is a team captain and has played for two years. His personal best is making his coach proud and he also participates in rodeo, golf and working on ranches. Ashton’s proudest accomplishment is having good grades and his favorite memory is going with his team to see the Raiders in Las Vegas. His biggest fans are “my teammates I would say are my biggest fans because they are there helping me improve at the game and my coaches for having faith in me.” Ashton's post-grad plans are “go work where the money buys you a yacht.” He said “I would like to thank my mom, dad, my coaches, Treyvin and Damon, Rylan and Justin Thorpe.”
Merville Smartt, Cheyanna Jones and his sisters escorted Kiowa Smartt for his senior honors. This is Kiowa’s first year in football and he participates in wrestling and track. His proudest accomplishment is making it to state in wrestling. Plans after high school include working in the mines/ firefighting. Kiowa said, “I would like to thank my coaches for convincing me to join wrestling and football.”
Owen Jim was unable to be present at the recognition due to a family emergency.
All of the players advised their teammates to play hard and not give up. They mention that they will miss traveling and playing with their teammates. Good luck in setting and accomplishing your goals, look forward to graduation and best of luck in your future endeavors.
